Stone Family History

Picture
Elizabeth Stone (1850-1907) daughter of Abijah Stone and wife of Andrew Cunningham
Solomon Stone was born in Vermont in 1790 and died in Bond Head, ON in 1867.  He emigrated to Upper Canada from Vermont probably as early as 1823 and appears in an 1837 directory on Lot 4, Concession 5 West Gwillimbury Township, Ontario.

He married (1) Esther (1784-1830) in 1815 and (2) Mary Winn (1807-1882) in 1837 in West Gwillimbury, Ontario. She was the daughter of Joshua Winn, a Quaker.

Solomon's son, Abijah and his family appear in Hawkesville, Wellesley Township in the 1861 census,  having moved there with other families after the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837. Abijah married Mary Landerkin and in 1861 they had 7 children aged 10 months to 17 years.
