Historical Records - The Corporation of the Township of Wellesley

The Township Office holds records of historical interest and value, some of which date to early days of the Township's history. These records include the following. Titles in blue are available digitally on our site.

Council Minutes, December 1866 to 1954
By-laws #1-296, 1852-1883
By-laws #1049-1246, 1937-1946
Board of Health Minutes, 1885-1960 (open by permission)
Wellesley Police Village Minutes, 1908-1961
S. S. #16 Wellesley School Visitors Book 1859-1951

The full list can be seen here.

Most of the records are open for research on request. However, some vital statistics (births, marriages and deaths) are closed to researchers based on the same restrictions in place at the Archives of Ontario as follows:
  • Births closed after 1917
  • Marriages closed after 1936
  • Deaths closed after 1946

Each researcher is asked to read and sign an agreement detailing how the records may be accessed and used. A copy of the agreement can be downloaded here.

Staff members at the Township Office are not able to undertake research requests.

Please contact Grace Kosch, Township Clerk to arrange for access to the records.
