Criteria and Process for
Wellesley Township Heritage/Historical Society
Grants
Wellesley Township Heritage and Historical Society recognize that events or activities held in the Township of Wellesley may provide historic or cultural benefit to the Township and its residents. A policy is herein considered to provide financial incentive to enhance, encourage or acquire these cultural or heritage assets for the municipality.
The objective of this policy is to ensure that any funding assistance recommended to the Corporation of the Township of Wellesley will be first reviewed for fairness and equity and to ensure value for the commitment made.
Grants and or other incentives shall only be considered where the activity directly benefits Wellesley Township Heritage or Historical Society the Corporation of the Township of Wellesley. Grants or other financial incentives will only be recommended where individual profit will not be realized. In a situation where consideration is given to recommending the purchase or acquisition of goods and materials of historical, heritage, architectural significance or cultural value, the value of the item will be in keeping with the spirit of this policy to not enhance personal gain.

The following criteria will be considered when reviewing requests for projects to recommend for funding or financial incentive or acquisition:
It is recognized that some of the criteria will be difficult to quantify or measure however the review committee will be responsible to keep these objectives and criteria foremost in their deliberations.

Criteria.
The following criteria will be considered when reviewing requests for projects to recommend for funding or financial incentive or acquisition:
- Projects/events are to be held within the limits of the Township of Wellesley unless they are joint ventures held within the Regional Municipality of Waterloo
- The objectives and values of the projects/events are to be in keeping with historic, heritage and cultural values of the Township of Wellesley
- Projects/events are to be non-denominational.
- Projects/events should have a broad range of appeal in the municipality recognizing that the history, heritage and culture of the municipality can be represented in single items or in site specific locations.
- Project/events should be capable of repatriating goods and materials to the municipality or bringing recognition to the municipality through media publicity etc.
- Projects/events should have the potential to foster public awareness of Township history/heritage.
It is recognized that some of the criteria will be difficult to quantify or measure however the review committee will be responsible to keep these objectives and criteria foremost in their deliberations.
Special Consideration and Circumstances
- In the event that a situation arises which require an immediate decision on the part of a member of the Wellesley Township Heritage or Historical Society to repatriate an object of local significance, for example, at an auction sale or other similar short term opportunity; the member may, in consultation with one or more other members, make the acquisition provided that the total dollar value does not exceed $ 2000.00.
Amount of Financial Assistance
- The amount of financial assistance to be recommended to the Township of Wellesley will vary depending on the nature of the project event being considered.
- 100% funding of a repatriation of an artifact may be appropriate.
- Lesser amounts may be allocated to projects /events that are capable of generating financing from other sources as joint ventures.
- No funding will be allocated to projects which will result in personal gain/profit for the applicant.
Process for Requesting Grants/Financial Assistance
- Requests for consideration of financial assistance may be submitted to Wellesley Township Heritage /Historical Society by February 15 of the calendar year in which the funding is requested.
- Recommendations for funding approval will be submitted by Wellesley Township Heritage/Historical Society to the township of Wellesley by March 15 of the calendar Year in which the funding is requested.
- The Township of Wellesley will allocate funding approvals no later than April 15 in the calendar year in which the funding is requested.
Payment of approved funding
- Payment of approved funding will be made through the finance department of the Township of Wellesley after the formal approval of the Township of Wellesley.
- Applicants will be required to make proper recognition of the involvement of Wellesley Township Heritage/Historical Society and the Township of Wellesley during their event or as a result of their project completion.
Reporting
- Funding recipients will be required to produce a report in writing documenting the success of their project /event once it is complete. The report shall include statements on how the project/event benefited the Heritage, Historical, cultural community of the Township of Wellesley
