Notes:
General contractor in the North Waterloo area for thirty years
  • 1941-50 - managed a comer store at St Clements until sons took over
  • Herbert’s brother Edward was also a councillor (and reeve of Waterloo Township) and "they always helped one another soliciting votes during elections" (Schnarrs from Erbsville p71)
  • Described as a self-made man when he became warden
  • In his inaugural address as warden said that road maintenance costs could be cut by building permanent roads. In 1957 53% of the roads were hard-topped and his goal was to increase the percentage. (Reported in New Hamburg Independent 3 Jan 1957)
