S. S. #1 - Hessen Road

S. S. #1 is located on Hessen Strasse, formerly Hessen Road, Concession VI, Lot 9,  Eastern Section.

School classes in this area were held in a church until 1862. The school property was purchased from Mr. Michael Moser for $25 and the school was known as Moser’s School in early school board inspection reports.  The original school was built of stone. The exterior was cemented in 1923.

Miss Mary Louise Morton was a teacher at this school around 1900. She later married Dr. William Glaister and was the mother of Dr. Deborah Glaister Hannay.

In 1940 electric lights were installed. In 1941 playground equipment such as swings and teeter-totters were added.

The school closed in February 1967 and the children were bused to the new Wellesley Public School. In 1967 the school became a private residence.
