  • His parents were natives of Dunkeld, Scotland, among the early settlers of the township, arriving in 1844. Called "Black Sandy" to distinguish him from his cousin 'White Sandy," the son of Robert Robertson (Maple Leaf Journal)
  • 1868-when father died, operated family farm
  • 1892-elected to the township council
  • 1894-resigned to accept the nomination of the N Waterloo Liberals and was elected by one of the largest majorities in the history of the riding; retired from politics in 1898 to be re-elected to the township council, including the position of reeve
  • 1894-98-MPP for North Waterloo
  • 1904-retired from farming
  • 1905-1915 chairman of the local health board
