R. C. S. S. #4 - Linwood
Roman Catholic students in Linwood attended the public school until 1906 when trustees for a new Roman Catholic Separate School were elected. They purchased three lots on Isabella St. and constructed a combined school and chapel in 1907. It was a two-storey brick building with the classrooms on the first floor and a chapel on the upper floor.
In 1922 construction began on a new church next to the school. When the foundation was roofed over, church services took place there and the school was then able to use the entire school building. The upper grades, including a continuation school or high school, were located upstairs in the former chapel and the lower grades remained on the first floor. In 1948 the continuation school was discontinued and the students attended Elmira High School
With the centralization of the rural school system in 1969, R. C. S. S. #4 was closed and students were transferred to St. Clements.
The school was demolished to make room for a parking lot beside St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
